I know this question may seem preposterous, but is Asylum going downhill ? Sure their movies are garbage, but usually entertaining garbage. Not this one ! If you watch the preview you will see that they spent a bit more money on the CGI here, say $200 as opposed to the $20 they usually budget for special effects, but that trailer contains about all the special effects and computer generated monsters you are going to see. The rest is just one long boring story that had me nodding off over and over. This movie also proves to me something I have felt before, when The Asylum uses actresses to carry the story, it just does not work. Maybe watching men make fools out of themselves in these stupid films is more rewarding ? Eric Roberts seems to be turning up in more of these low budget films but he adds nothing except a recognizable name in an advertisement. The whole movie is just pathetic. I wish it had been so bad it was funny, it is not.
The ape in a 40 yr old Donkey Kong game looks more realistic than this. And the very talented Eric Roberts couldn't save this movie. I couldn't watch more then 15 minutes so I don't know who won this.
I wonder if the makers even watched this before releasing it to public. The bad CGI took the last bit from it. Worst of its kind.
How helpful of the production company to change the title. I mean King Kong sounds a little of and Godzilla could be from a rather different genre... so happy they simplified it!But my praises must stop here! I couldn't understand any of the things being said in connection to the earlier Monsterverse-movies. The CGI looks cheap compared to the other movies but at least the ape looked ape-like, which actually is a great takeaway considering the title. My lizzard looked a little unhappy being called a monster, but she's alright now. But yeah - big disappointment... and where is Mille BB at????
A much better title would be "Monkey VS Monster". They have a chimp turn into what looks like a big stuffed toy monkey and a Gila monster that turns into some sort of large lizard. Terrible dialog, bad acting, bad CGI makes for a very funny film. Lots of "WTF's which will keep you scratching your head. Gave it a 2 instead of a 1 due to the somewhat entertainment we got out of this.
I watched Godzilla vs King Kong and Ape Vs Monster.Ape vs Monster was MUCH more interesting and enjoyable to watch,While this movie is nothing spectacular on any level, I actually enjoyed it much more than something done with a 200 million diollar budget and many many many more people who are supposedly experts in film making.Ape Vs. Monster is bad...Godzilla vs King Kong is dreadful and boring and not funny in the least.Yes - Asylum puts out some bad movies, but many times they are more interesting and enjoyable than many other movies with a bigger budget, a bigger cast and a team of people that are supposed to know how to make exceptionally awesome movies - but don't.Plus, this movie has Eric Roberts - and you can't fo wrong with that.
The movie's plot is actually very good piece of Sci-Fi work. The acting is a job well done. THe CGI was at its best point! The lizard looks quite cringe as compared to other Godzilla designs and there were quite some stupid scenes inside. The movie, in my opinion, is the best of Asylum.
Fun popcorn movie! And the story arc of the father and daughter Dr. Murphy's reminded me of a similar setup in the final season of one of my favorite shows, The Legend of Korra. It was nice to have the two female leads as badass astrophysicists; they both did a great job particularly the breakout star Arianna Scott.
